Summer Vacation!

Even though summer doesn't officially begin until the summer solstice on June 20 (at 7:09pm!), it's here for NHCS kids NOW! I hope you are already having fun times!

When the weather is warm, sunny, and beautiful, being inside at a computer or a TV is a terrible idea. But there may be times when you'd like a little time on the internet. As promised, here's the "ICT Summer Tizmos Page" of links for you to use. There are online magazines, links to free videos, typing games, and the amazing Seed Ball game we all love! As I find more interesting websites this summer, I will add them. Have fun!

Don't forget to read! The beach, the campground, on road trips, at summer school, in the yard under trees - you can take books anywhere! Leave me a comment (with your first name only!) and let me know what you're reading!

Free Math Apps

Beginning today and for four days only, Everyday Mathematics® is offering free math game apps for your iPhone, an iTouch, or iPad. These games are the same as the Everyday Math online games students play on comptuers and they're electronic versions of the games each grade level plays in class. These games reinforce major concepts presented in our math program. To find the games, go to the iTunes App Store, then search for Everyday Mathematics. After April 16th, the games will go back to their original price - so get them while you can!

Thanksgiving!

Think you know a lot about this holiday and the people who inspired it? The folks at NHPTV and Granite State Challenge have a two holiday quizzes for elementary students - test your knowledge about Pilgrims, then try the one about Thanksgiving. If you get a wrong answer, the quiz will tell you the correct one - and that will help you learn! Get a family member and give them both a try!

Type at Home

Fourth and fifth graders are gearing up for another year with Type to Learn 4. You love this program! Some are disappointed to find that they cannot access Type to Learn at home, so I promised a few web-based alternatives to practice keyboarding:

TypingWeb:  at www.typingweb.com.
There are ads on this site, shown mostly while pages load. Don't bother with them, don't click on them. Just wait for the free program, which has lots of levels and starts right off with the home row keys, where your fingers need to rest. It will ask you to create an account before you start - but to practice, you really don't need to.

PowerTyping: at www.powertyping.com/. 
Not the prettiest typing program but it has the lessons you'll need! It's good practice!

BBC DanceMat Typing at www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/ 
This keyboarding website from England and it's fun! Start at Level One and work your way up!

Bubbles: at www.typingmaster.com/individuals/bubbles.asp. 
A fun game to help you practice your typing skills. In the game your goal is to burst the bubbles by pressing the correct key. Have fun!
